Tesco Security Partnership Specialist

We are a growing team of 15+ experts who support Tesco technology and software development teams across cloud and cutting-edge technologies at scale. Our primary responsibility is to ensure the security of our software development teams, which operate independently, thus requiring a different approach than traditional security teams.
Our engineering teams have significant autonomy in their work, accompanied by the corresponding responsibility to prioritize customer security. Fortunately, our engineering teams are usually willing partners in enhancing security efficiency and earlier in the process. As a security partner, you will play a crucial role in scaling out and representing our engineering domains externally.
Tesco has fully adopted DevOps and agile methodologies for developing enterprise APIs, services, and cloud capabilities. We have over 100 delivery teams that heavily utilize Docker, Kubernetes, and microservices across Azure and AWS, necessitating a flexible security approach that complements elastic infrastructure.
As a security partner, your main objective is to champion positive security change within our technology domains and software engineering teams. This involves actively promoting secure practices, helping product teams deliver new business features while balancing technical and business risks, and driving the deployment/integration of security capabilities into engineering teams.
The ideal candidate should be able to facilitate risk remediation, challenge decisions, and status-quo, as well as participate in assurance activities like penetration testing, purple testing, and application assurance. Furthermore, they should be an evangelist for security, contributing to strengthening Tesco's internal policies and standards.
In the long term, this role requires identifying new problem spaces, proposing fixes, and engaging across disciplines. Key responsibilities include developing threat models, attack trees, and embedding security by design in product engineering efforts. A good understanding of web technologies, REST APIs, microservices, modern application development, and mobile apps is essential. Additionally, knowledge of software architecture, dev-sec-ops, and network security is required, along with hands-on experience with complex Azure and AWS architectures and containerized workloads. Some coding experience in Java, HTML, or JavaScript is beneficial.
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Information Systems or Engineering discipline is mandatory, with Azure or AWS cloud security certifications being preferred. We offer excellent benefits, including:
- Annual bonus scheme
- Holiday starting at 25 days plus a personal day (and bank holidays)
- Great colleague discounts and deals, saving you money on everyday purchases, utility bills for the home, and more
- Retirement savings plan – save between 4% and 7%
- Buy as you earn and Save as you earn share schemes
- Opportunities to get on – take advantage of our ongoing learning opportunities and award-winning training to help you achieve the career you want
Our vision at Tesco is to become every customer's favorite way to shop, whether they are at home or on the move. Our core purpose is 'Serving our customers, communities, and planet a little better every day.' This means acting as a responsible and sustainable business for all stakeholders, for the communities we are part of, and for the planet.
