We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Pharmacy Technician to lead our IT systems and operations team within the Pharmacy Department at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing, maintaining, supporting, and training all Pharmacy Information Technology systems, ensuring seamless operational service delivery.

Main Duties
  1. Support the operational management of pharmacy services at both sites, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.
  2. Project manage service developments, liaising with Estates & Facilities and Capital planning as required, to coordinate cross-site projects.
  3. Support the Chief Pharmacist in leading the Pharmacy Staff Engagement and Wellbeing Group, promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.
  4. Lead on the implementation, maintenance, support, and training of all Pharmacy Information Technology systems, ensuring optimal configuration and functionality.
  5. Participate in providing a pharmacy service at weekends and on bank holidays, ensuring continuity of service delivery.
Projects and Service Development
  1. Develop business cases, project initiation documentation, and project plans, working closely with the Chief Pharmacy Technician/Pharmacy Operations Manager.
  2. Lead on project management for IT and systems service developments in pharmacy, ensuring successful implementation and integration.
  3. Chair project meetings, producing terms of reference, agendas, and meeting minutes, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  4. Delegate tasks to project group members, produce highlight reports, and manage project progress, ensuring timely completion and delivery.
  5. Manage the process of project implementation into business as usual, ensuring seamless transition and minimal disruption.
  6. Collect data for benefits realisation from project implementation, demonstrating the value and impact of the project.
  7. Complete post-project evaluations, demonstrating the benefits realised and lessons learned.
Health and Safety
  1. Be the pharmacy representative for health and safety matters, ensuring compliance with regulations and legislation.
  2. Carry out risk assessments and produce reports relating to health, safety, and security, identifying and mitigating potential risks.
  3. Resolve local risk management or escalate risks to the Senior Management Group for resolution, further escalation, or inclusion on the department risk register.
  4. Ensure that procedures relating to fire, security, and staff safety are maintained and appropriate checks/drills are conducted, ensuring a safe working environment.
  5. Ensure that the department has appropriately trained first aiders, fire marshals, and complete COSHH records, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  6. Ensure that appropriate training relating to fire, safety, security, and hazardous spills is delivered to pharmacy staff, working closely with the pharmacy education and training staff.
  7. Ensure adequate levels of security are in place within pharmacy to safeguard the department, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive information.
Pharmacy IT
  1. Assist in managing the E-Rostering system, supporting systems to manage absences due to annual leave/study leave/scheduled days off/sickness, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.
  2. Be an Ascribe/EMIS pharmacy system manager, ensuring that systems are optimally configured, staff are fully trained, and systems of continuity are correctly functioning and that outputs are accurate.
  3. Be a robot administrator, have high-level access, and expert knowledge of system management, providing training to system users/super users.
  4. Be a Prescription Tracking System (PTS) system administrator, supporting the pharmacy staff with system usage and in report production, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  5. Troubleshoot/triage general IT issues within pharmacy, supporting staff by resolving issues personally or directing them to the appropriate provider of support, ensuring minimal disruption to service delivery.
  6. Maintain the Pharmacy temperature monitoring system by addressing alarm state, resolving/escalating as appropriate, and recording remedial actions taken for auditing purposes, ensuring compliance with regulations.
