About the Role

GKN Aerospace is seeking a highly skilled Principal Research Engineer to join our team in Bristol. As a Principal Research Engineer, you will be responsible for generating models and engineering drawings of cryogenic systems ready for manufacture. You will supervise the procurement, manufacture, and assembly of cryogenic components and systems for aircraft and ground-based facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use engineering information to generate models of cryogenic and vacuum systems
  • Contribute to engineering analysis and validation
  • Generate engineering drawings from cryogenic system models
  • Determine and select manufacturing and assembly techniques for cryogenic and vacuum assemblies
  • Generate process instructions for system assembly
  • Identify and select suppliers for cryogenic and vacuum systems
  • Source and select materials and components
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to develop cost-effective designs

Requirements

  • HNC/HND, degree, or equivalent qualification in an engineering subject
  • Experience in the design of cryogenic and high vacuum systems
  • Experience of leak tightness and leak detection in cryogenic and high vacuum systems
  • Experience of materials behavior at cryogenic temperatures
  • Good design practice, including manufacturing and joining techniques for cryogenic systems
