Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Analytical Chemist to join our team at the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science. As an Analytical Chemist, you will play a key role in our Hydrocarbons Team, working on a diverse range of projects that involve the analysis of hydrocarbon compounds in marine environmental samples.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement analytical methods for the measurement of hydrocarbon compounds in marine environmental samples.
  • Operate and maintain complex analytical instrumentation, including Spectrofluorimeter, Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry, and Gas Chromatography-Flame Ionisation Detector.
  • Conduct quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure that our laboratories operate to consistently high levels of quality standards (ISO/IEC17025; UKAS accreditation).
  • Collaborate with colleagues to deliver high-quality analytical data and contribute to the development of new methods and improvements.
  • Work in a laboratory environment, with regular communication with the Hydrocarbons Technical Manager and Principal Scientist.

Requirements

  • Experience of working in an analytical laboratory following Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Knowledge of quality control practices and associated documentation relevant to ISO/IEC17025.
  • Ability to work autonomously and use your own initiative, with effective team working skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to multitask and maintain focus.
  • Methodical, organised, and able to problem-solve with excellent attention to detail.
