Job Title: Payroll Manager

Job Summary:

The Payroll Manager is a key role within the Village Hotels - Central Team, responsible for leading an efficient payroll department. This involves overseeing the accurate processing of wages, ensuring timely payment, administering various employee benefits, and maintaining compliance with all relevant tax and employment laws.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Payroll Processing: Ensure that employee salaries, benefits, and deductions are processed accurately and on time.
  2. Record Keeping: Maintain employee records and ensure financial confidentiality.
  3. Reporting: Create and share reports on payroll activity, especially for new hires and terminations.
  4. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that payroll practices comply with relevant laws and regulations, such as working hours and minimum wage.
  5. Team Management: Lead and develop a team of payroll assistants.
  6. Error Resolution: Resolve payroll errors.
  7. Change Management: Monitor promotions, transfers, and terminations.
  8. Payroll Journal Entries: Complete all payroll journal entries at the end of each payroll period.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a small team of experienced payroll professionals.
  • HMRC Submissions: Ensure that all HMRC submissions are made, payroll reconciliations carried out, and all legislative timescales are adhered to.
  • Payroll Projects: Lead on all payroll-related projects.
  • Pension Processing: Process accurately the pension(s) to our external partners.
  • Procedure Development: Develop and refine payroll procedures.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the finance and People & Development team.
  • Support and Advice: Provide support and advice to the Hotel General Managers on cost efficiencies.
Personal Specification:
  • Experience: Previous experience of managing or supervising a payroll team.
  • Payroll Knowledge: Excellent current, technical payroll knowledge.
  • Mentoring: Ability to mentor and develop a team.
  • Payroll Solution: Experience of processing payroll via our Fourth payroll solution for circa 4,500 employees.
  • Systems and Numerical Skills: Excellent systems and numerical skills.
  • Leadership: A technically strong payroll professional who can lead by example and impart their in-depth payroll knowledge to the team.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication, including active listening and report writing.
  • Qualification: Payroll Management qualification (desirable).
