Job Summary:

UKCIL Ltd is seeking a Support Worker to provide opportunities of play and learning for a 15-year-old son who has Down Syndrome and associated learning delays, and is Autistic.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Communicate and support his time, activities, and communication.
  2. Accompany him in local places and his favourite locations.
  3. Interact with him using suitable means and methods, such as play and drawing, to make him happy and comfortable.

Essentials:

  1. Calm and confident demeanour.
  2. Resilience in managing anxiety and some challenging behaviours.
  3. Will to receive training, including Makaton, Down Syndrome, and Autism.
  4. Ability to show initiative and flexibility.
  5. Sensitivity to his needs and feelings.
  6. Good communication and listening skills.
  7. Ability to work unsupervised.
  8. Initiative in building self-esteem while ensuring a safe and warm atmosphere.
  9. Interest in art and craft.

Requirements:

To hold a current and satisfactory enhanced DBS check or be willing to complete one.

Working Hours:

4 hours per week on Saturday or Sunday (term-time), and an additional 4 hours per week during school holidays.
