R&D Project Engineer

We are seeking an experienced R&D Project Engineer to join our team at a design and manufacturing focused technology business. As an R&D Project Engineer, you will be responsible for liaising between our manufacturing facility in Wakefield and our overseas design office to ensure that designs are manufactured correctly.
You will need to be comfortable reviewing engineering drawings and BOMs to ensure they are fit for purpose when released to the manufacturing team. Previous experience of providing technical support to production, assembly, test, and quality teams involved in product manufacture is essential. You will also need CAD skills and a lot of common sense.
This is an opportunity to join a market-leading business that operates on prestigious and lucrative projects. As an R&D Project Engineer, you will have a varied role working alongside end-user clients, a matrix-managed engineering function, and manufacturing staff. You will receive a good basic salary and benefits package and work on large-scale projects of key importance to the business from day one. There will be significant travel as part of this role, with a few trips each month, some of which will be international.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage research and development of new and existing products and components from initiation to completion, ensuring adherence to project scope, budget, and timeline.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, quality, production, and product management, to define project goals, deliverables, and success criteria.
- Design, develop, and implement innovative solutions, prototypes, and proof-of-concept models based on project requirements.
- Create detailed drawings for designs including General Assemblies.
- Create and manage BOM (Bill of Material) data for all designed, produced, and assembled items.
- Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and technical evaluations to determine the viability and scalability of proposed solutions.
- Develop and execute test plans, experiments, and validation protocols to assess the performance and reliability of developed prototypes.
- Degree in Mechanical, Energy, or Building Services Engineering would be ideal.
- 3+ years of Mechanical Engineering Design experience.
- Good knowledge of high-end 3D and 2D CAD systems, ideally SolidWorks and AutoCAD or similar.
