Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and skilled pharmacy technician to join our dispensary team at York Hospital. This is a fulfilling role that offers opportunities for career development, workflow management, and leadership skills.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal Pharmacy Technician to develop the current service and ensure its continued delivery of high-quality patient care.

This position involves managing and prioritizing workflow in the dispensary, dispensing and accuracy checking prescriptions, allocation and rota planning for the dispensary team, and completing appraisals, sickness absence reporting, and mentoring allocated staff.

The ideal candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be well-organized, and able to work independently and as part of a team. A strong background in pharmaceutical sciences, registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council, and previous experience in supervising junior staff are essential requirements for this role.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage and prioritize workflow in the dispensary to ensure efficient and effective operation.
  • Dispense and accuracy check prescriptions received, adhering to strict quality control measures.
  • Allocate and plan rotas for the dispensary team and other support staff to meet service needs.
  • Complete appraisals, sickness absence reporting, and mentor allocated staff to promote professional growth and development.
  • Review and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as required to maintain compliance and best practice.
  • Collaborate with the Principal Pharmacy Technician to develop the current service, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
