Job Summary

Hounslow and Richmond Community NHS Healthcare Trust is seeking a skilled Immunisation Nurse to join their School Age Vaccination Service team. As a key member of the team, you will play a vital role in supporting the safe delivery and triage of nasal flu and other vaccination programs.

Main Responsibilities
  • Assess young people and understand the pre-requisites of giving an immunisation, including understanding contraindications, aftercare, and relevant advice to provide to the young person.
  • Contribute to the identification and protection of children at risk of abuse and act in accordance with local Safeguarding Children's Board guidelines.
  • Ensure all statutory and mandatory training is up to date, including CPR, Anaphylaxis, and Immunisation training.
  • Maintain necessary communication and liaison with other nursing disciplines and allied professions.
  • Provide support, mentorship, guidance, and supervision to junior and non-qualified staff members of the School Nursing service.
  • Maintain personal safety and that of others by taking reasonable care, carrying out the requirements of the law, and following recognised codes of practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer vaccines according to the national immunisation schedule.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of immunisations given.
  • Provide education and information to patients and families about immunisation, including potential side effects and the importance of vaccines.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions following immunisation.
  • Ensure vaccines are stored and handled according to guidelines, maintaining the cold chain.
  • Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, such as doctors, pharmacists, and social workers.
  • Participate in public health initiatives and campaigns to promote immunisation.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols to ensure a safe and clean working environment.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Registered Nurse with a valid license to practice.
  • Experience in immunisation and vaccination is preferred.
  • Knowledge of current immunisation schedules, vaccines, and contraindications to vaccination.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
