Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Insurance Taxation Specialist to join our team at Starr Insurance Companies.

Role Purpose

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the preparation and submission of tax returns for our UK and European operations, liaising with external tax advisors, and designing and implementing internal controls to ensure compliance with taxation regulations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing corporation tax returns for UK and European entities, including branches;
  • Maintaining and improving transfer pricing files, reflecting the operations of the company and its branches;
  • Designing, documenting, and reviewing tax controls to support general risk management;
  • Producing payment on account estimates and VAT returns for periodic settlement to HMRC and European Tax Authorities;
  • Liaising with internal and external auditors to ensure accurate and timely production of taxation information;
  • Assisting with the review of existing reporting processes to improve automation and efficiency, and reducing risk;
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A recognised accounting qualification, such as ACA or CTA;
  • Post-qualification experience in taxation, preferably within an insurance company;
  • Working knowledge of tax accounting under UK GAAP and/or IFRS, corporation tax requirements imposed by HMRC for insurance companies, VAT requirements imposed by HMRC for insurance companies, and IPT requirements imposed by HMRC for insurance companies;
  • Experience working with Lloyd's Syndicates and insurance companies, and awareness of similar tax regimes in European locations;
  • Advanced analysis and problem-solving skills, advanced numeracy, and pragmatic judgment and decision-making;
  • Excellent business writing and presentation skills, and ability to work effectively in a matrix reporting environment;
