About the Service

Cardiff County Council is seeking to recruit a Principal Social Worker to join its Children's Services team. As a Principal Social Worker, you will play a key role in shaping the practice and development of the locality management team, working closely with other PSWs, Team Managers, and the Operational Manager.

The successful candidate will have robust safeguarding experience, experience of working with Children Looked After, and be confident with court proceedings. You must also be flexible and able to work under pressure, with a strong track record of assessment and reporting skills.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking organization that is committed to providing high-quality services to children and families. The team works from a strengths-based approach, using the Signs of Safety framework to meet the needs of young people and their families.

As Lead Child Protection Specialist, you will be responsible for developing the practice of others within the team through joint working and supervision. You will also lead by example as case-holder for children with complex needs, requiring expertise and skill.

The estimated salary for this role is £52,000-£65,000 per annum, depending on experience. Cardiff offers a range of benefits, including access to leadership and management development opportunities, and a commitment to supporting the learning and development of individuals.

About the Job

In this role, you will support children and young people through robust assessment, outcome-focused planning, and effective intervention. You will work in partnership with families and multi-agency colleagues to address both presenting concerns and underlying difficulties. This will involve working within a restorative practice approach, using the Signs of Safety framework to guide your work.

You will also take the role of Practice Leader, working with the Team Manager to support and encourage the culture within the service. This will involve leading, teaching, and modelling the Signs of Safety approach, and contributing to the development and maintenance of effective systems to ensure quality services to children in need and their families.
