About the Role

Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled Consultant Adult Psychiatrist to lead the Acute Inpatient ward in Bodmin. This is an exciting opportunity for a General Adult Psychiatrist with experience in managing patients in an inpatient setting to take on a key leadership role.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Manage the clinical workload of patients within the ward areas, providing professional supervision to junior medical staff.
  2. Support the education and training of junior medical staff, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide high-quality care.
  3. Participate in service and business planning activities for adult services, including hospital and community settings, and contribute to the development of the Mental Health Service.
  4. Attend and participate in the Trust's academic program, including lectures and seminars, to enhance professional development and contribute to the internal CPD program.
  5. Engage in annual job plan reviews with the Chief Medical Officer, ensuring the post is developed to reflect changes in service configuration and delivery.
  6. Collaborate with local managers and professional colleagues to ensure the efficient running of services and share best practices with consultant colleagues.
  7. Comply with the Trust's policies, procedures, and financial instructions, and take an active role in the financial management of the service.

Person Specification
  • Recognised Medical Degree
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register or a Specialty Trainee within 6 months of gaining CCT
  • Eligibility for Section 12 and AC Approval
  • Relevant Higher Degree, e.g., MD, PhD, MSc, or other additional clinical qualifications
  • Completion of Clinical and Educational Supervisor Training
  • Experience in assessing and treating mental health patients in out-patient and community settings
  • Knowledge and evidence of participation in CPD
  • Prior experience working in a rehabilitation Service
  • Experience of working across different services within mental health
  • Other relevant experience, e.g., specific psychological therapies
  • Qualifications or experience in managing physical illness
  • Previous experience in taking a leadership role in several multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring high-quality care and staff morale
  • Ability to manage own time, workload, and prioritise clinical work
  • Ability to appraise own performance
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Evidence of specific achievements that demonstrate leadership skills
