Job Title: Locum Consultant in Paediatric Neurology



About the Role:



Birmingham Children’s Hospital is seeking to appoint a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Paediatric Oncologist with an interest in brain tumours in children. As part of our dynamic team, you will play a crucial role in providing tertiary oncology services to patients from across the UK.



Job Overview:




  • You will oversee the day-to-day management of in-patients through participation in the departmental weekly “on-service” and out-of-hours rota, as well as undertaking regular outpatient clinics and attending appropriate MDTs.
  • Liaise with the established Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Units (POSCUs) and contribute to the development of sub-specialty interests in neuro-oncology, general solid tumour oncology, TYA oncology, late-effects, and retinoblastoma.
  • The post-holder will be eligible for inclusion on the specialist register for Paediatric Oncology or be within 6 months of completion of higher specialist training or equivalent.


Key Responsibilities:




  • Participate in departmental weekly “on-service” and out-of-hours rota to manage in-patient care.
  • Undertake regular outpatient clinics and attend relevant MDTs.
  • Liaise with POSCUS and contribute to sub-specialty interests.
  • Eligible for specialist register for Paediatric Oncology or completion of higher specialist training within 6 months.


Requirements:




  • MBBS or equivalent qualification.
  • Full GMC registration and License to practice within the UK.
  • Accredited to the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health or equivalent for CPD.
  • MRCPCH or equivalent qualification.
  • On specialist register for Paediatric Oncology (CCT/CESR or equivalent) or completion of higher specialist training within 6 months.

  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative in a pressurised environment.
  • Understand and deliver evidence-based care.
  • Advanced communication skills training.
  • Supervision/teaching/support skills for junior team members.


Salary: £105,504 - £139,882 per annum (dependent on experience), plus benefits package.
