About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled HV Design Engineer to join our Grid & Digital Solutions department as part of the M Power Projects division. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the construction of the EGL1 project, a collaborative effort between National Grid Electricity Transmission and SP Transmission.

The EGL1 project involves the transmission of renewable energy from Scotland to England through a 190km subsea HVDC cable, powering over two million homes in the UK. As an HV Design Engineer, you will be responsible for supervising engineering activities related to medium and high voltage systems, reviewing technical specifications, and ensuring compliance with project requirements.

Your Responsibilities
  • Supervise engineering activities for the project, including medium and high voltage systems
  • Review technical specifications and ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Review technical studies and drawings, schematics, cable lists, and wiring diagrams
  • Draft RfQs for equipment and evaluate technical offers from suppliers
  • Coordinate technical interfaces and ensure compliance of final design documents and drawings
  • Participate in factory acceptance tests and provide technical assistance to the site construction team
Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience in the power industry (HV/MV substations, power plants) and/or large-scale construction projects
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language
  • Experience in at least one field of medium or high voltage systems is an advantage
  • Proficient working knowledge of AutoCAD and at least one power systems analysis software (DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, PSS/E)
  • Good background in electrical systems and familiarity with international and European standards
