Culinary Expert for Early Education Establishment

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the preparation and service of food, stock taking, obtaining supplies, and cleaning of premises and equipment in our nursery school setting. This role is ideal for individuals with a passion for culinary arts and a desire to work in an environment that values excellence and innovation.

We are looking for someone with some experience in serving food within a school/nursery environment, who can formulate menus and follow guidelines, codes of practice, and regulations. The ability to use general catering equipment safely and correctly is essential. As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver exceptional results.

This is a part-time hours, term time only position. We offer a competitive salary, estimated to be around £25,000-£35,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Purchase fresh ingredients as required. Complete stock lists to give to the Business Manager with current stock and required stock listed
  2. Preparing, cooking, and serving children's breakfast, lunch, and tea
  3. Making cakes, biscuits, and other items as required
  4. Keeeping the kitchen clean and tidy – cleaning the area daily, including floor areas
  5. Washing up/drying up/loading and unloading the dishwasher
  6. Risk assessing the kitchen for any hazards
  7. Putting used tea towels etc in the washing machine
  8. Hanging the washing out or putting on the internal dryer
  9. Observing Health and Safety guidelines for all appliances and all practices
  10. Ensuring safe practices are used at all times
  11. Complying with local environmental Health regulations and completing daily documentation
  12. Complying with Ofsted Daycare Standards (Health and Safety, Nutrition etc)
  13. Assisting the chef with preparation of daily lunch
  14. Serving food in an efficient and friendly manner
  15. Preparing the hall for service (tables, cutlery, etc)
  16. Cleaning the dining area and kitchen premises
  17. Cleaning kitchen equipment
  18. Cleaning outside the kitchen area, including drains, dustbin area etc

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Some experience of serving food within a school/nursery environment would be desirable but not essential
  • A catering qualification would be an advantage but is not essential. A Food Hygiene certificate is a distinct advantage
  • Must be able to formulate menus and follows guidelines, codes of practice and regulations
  • Must be able to use general catering equipment, safely and correctly
  • Must be able to delegate to the catering assistant and ensure time and resources are used efficiently
  • Able to adhere to personal hygiene standards and health and safety regulations
  • Be polite, courteous, and friendly towards staff, parents, children
  • Will be willing and capable to be flexible and adjust work hours if needed
  • Will be willing to undertake further duties
  • Will be willing and able to undertake further training
  • Able to work to deadlines responding to specific timings
  • Capable of moderate physical activity, i.e. lifting saucepans, standing for long periods of time
