About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Maintenance Technician to join our team at Liberty Steel Group. As an Electrical Maintenance Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our plant and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational and maintenance services to the department, encompassing all aspects of engineering, including work with contract resources and production.
  • Report to the Team Leader Engineering on all matters regarding maintenance and operation of plant and equipment.
  • Carry out planned and unplanned maintenance activities on all aspects of plant and equipment on site.
  • Self-organize and prioritize work requirements and manage these accordingly and as directed by the team leader, section engineer, or shift manager.
  • Assist in developing maintenance practices and procedures to improve and maintain plant and equipment.
  • Pick up work, book out spares, and keep records of work carried out via CMMS and update the team on issues.
  • Ensure all legal requirements relating to systems are met and records kept.
  • Advise the team leader or section engineer of any spares used or required.
  • Ensure that all team members adhere to agreed procedures and systems of working at all times and report any changes that prevent working to these standards.
  • Complete point of work risk assessments.
  • Provide continuity of cover on site in the event of sickness and holiday.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained to the required standard, liaising with all members of the engineering department as required.
  • Reduce/eliminate all forms of waste from department operations.
  • Undertake on-the-job training.
  • Undertake training to learn new skills and use any training given.
  • Involvement in plant improvement projects.

About the Team

The team may be requested to assist across-site as required to support business objectives. Individuals will be expected to work in all departments and gain a working knowledge of them, using the experience of the local team.

Requirements

  • A recognized electrical engineering apprenticeship (preferably HNC but minimum ONC level or equivalent).
  • Electrical experience of heavy manufacturing industry.
  • Sound plant engineering knowledge and experience of industrial systems such as hydraulic systems, pumps, drives, and gearboxes, heavy machinery, water cooling systems, conveyor systems, dust extraction systems, PLCs, VSD, and Thyristor drives, AC & DC circuits, AC & DC motors, AC & DC cranes.
  • Self-starting driven individual capable of leading a small team.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional groups.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to methodically fault find any issues to root cause and front-line rectification.
  • Experience of working under permit systems previously or has knowledge of how permit systems operate.
  • A customer-focused attitude with an understanding of prioritization with current resources.
