About the Role

Mace is seeking a highly skilled Principal Designer to join our consultancy business. As a Principal Designer, you will be responsible for leading the design team and ensuring that design principles are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design team and ensure that design principles are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage the development of design deliverables and ensure that they meet business, statutory, legal, and contractual requirements.
  • Collaborate with the wider design disciplines, client personnel, and construction teams to ensure that design principles are maintained.
  • Report on progress to relevant parties and attend/participate in client meetings and design workshops as necessary.
  • Manage direct reports' work outputs to ensure they are timely, in scope, and of a quality expected.
  • Support the bidding process with the wider team where required.
  • Engage with business improvement directives where applicable.
  • Implement training plans for the team.
  • Lead business improvement working groups to deliver outcomes.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement plans/identify key business improvements.
  • Develop and maintain a series of both internal and external relationships.
  • Manage and influence key/senior stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Provide principal designer (building regulations) services for CDM 2015 and building regulations to clients across all RIBA Stages.
  • Strong people management and leadership skills are an advantage to chair online and in-person workshops with designers to help them comply with their new duty holder roles.
  • Collaboration and team working ethic are essential.
  • A detailed and in-depth understanding of building regulations, including fire safety, is required.
  • Management support for training and development of others to carry out building regulations compliance checks and management.
  • Provide building safety act consultancy advice and client advisor services to clients to help them comply with their duties.
  • Candidates should be MRICS or CIOB (Level 4 diploma in building control surveying) qualified.
