Job Summary:

Hampshire County Council is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Highway Engineer to join our progressive and dynamic team. As part of our Highways team, you will play a key role in delivering the Highways Maintenance service in Hampshire.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to Highway Engineers and undertake highway inspections to identify solutions to problems.
  • Raise works orders and work closely with junior service partners to ensure effective delivery of the Highways Maintenance service.
  • Conduct site audits and participate in training and mentoring of junior staff.
  • Manage a workload with minimum supervision and demonstrate flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and provide excellent customer care and communication skills.

Requirements:

  • Appropriate highways experience and a current driver's license are essential.
  • Ability to travel to various locations within Hampshire and work out of hours to respond to weather and other emergencies.
  • Good understanding of the principles of civil engineering and the ability to apply them in a practical context.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
