Environmental Governance Specialist

CIWEM (The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management) is seeking dynamic individuals to join our Board of Trustees and contribute to shaping the future of environmental competency worldwide.
About CIWEMWe are a leading professional membership organisation dedicated to supporting environmental professionals in government, business, academia, and charity sectors. With over 11,000 members, we are committed to tackling climate change and promoting sustainable solutions through events, training, publications, and policy work.
The RoleWe invite applications for two co-opted Trustee positions on our Board. Trustees play a crucial role in governance, strategic development, and custodianship, working closely with our Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team. You will help set the long-term vision, oversee financial health, and ensure compliance with our legal and constitutional frameworks.
Key Responsibilities- Passion for environmental issues and understanding of non-executive director roles
- Specialist skills in areas such as Commercial/Business Development, HR, Accounting and Finance, PR and Communications, Technology, or Market Intelligence (particularly in the water and environment sector)
- Articulate, prepared to challenge assumptions, and capable of informed decision-making for the benefit of CIWEM and its members
- Up to 6 board meetings annually (in-person in London or the Midlands and online)
- A full-day strategy review meeting in person
- Potential chairing of a committee
- Attendance at key CIWEM events and active engagement in communications and discussions
