Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Classroom Assistant to join our team at the Education Authority. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in supporting the learning and development of children with special educational needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers in the classroom, providing individualized support to students with special educational needs.
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote student engagement and participation in learning activities.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure seamless support and progress.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with special educational needs.
Requirements
  • Hold a minimum of a Level 2 childcare qualification as approved by the Education Authority.
  • Have a minimum of six months' experience of working with children in a formal learning environment.
  • Evidence of a working knowledge of information technology systems, including Microsoft Word and Outlook, and/or C2K schools IT systems.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the requirements of a Classroom Assistant (special educational needs), child development issues, and health and safety requirements relevant to the role.
  • Ability to work flexibly and creatively to help ensure a child-centred learning experience.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven team working and collaborative skills.
  • Effective planning and organizing skills to ensure work is completed on time to the required standard.
Desirable Criteria
  • Have a minimum of one year's experience of working with children with special educational needs.
  • Have a minimum of six months' experience working as a Classroom Assistant with children with special educational needs.
