Job Description

This role is for a highly skilled Biomedical Scientist in Microbiology to join our large Virology department.

The successful candidate will gain experience working in a Diagnostic Microbiology department, with the opportunity to develop skills in sequencing capability using Sanger and MinION NGS.

To be eligible for this role, candidates must be HCPC registered and have relevant experience working in a Diagnostic Microbiology service. Experience working in a UK Diagnostic Microbiology service is an advantage but not essential.

About the Role

We are a comprehensive medical microbiology service handling over 900,000 microbiology and virology samples per year. Our team provides a variety of professional qualifications for individuals who can demonstrate key skills to progress within their microbiology career.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting patients by providing high-quality diagnostic testing and results analysis.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to ensure seamless laboratory operations and excellent patient care.
  • Participating in ongoing training and professional development to maintain HCPC registration and expand expertise.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Essential: IBMS Accredited degree or Degree + Top-ups completed, HCPC accredited.
  • Desirable: Additional qualifications to meet additional roles (Quality / Safety / Training / IT), demonstrates knowledge and awareness of instrumentation and methods relevant to a clinical virology service.

Estimated Salary: £35,000 - £50,000 per annum.

Location: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
