Job Opportunity

A senior clinical fellow position has become available in the Obstetrics & Gynaecology department at St Michael's Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for a full-time clinical fellow to work closely with the consultant team and contribute to the planning, development, and assessment of undergraduate education in obstetrics and gynaecology.

Main Responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the full shift on-call rota, including obstetrics and emergency gynaecology cover. They will also be involved in teaching clinical skills in an undergraduate setting and will have the opportunity to further develop their career in education.

About the Role

This is a restricted post to ST6-7 level only. The post holder will be expected to work independently with common obstetric and gynaecological emergencies and will have the opportunity to work with the University of Bristol Reproductive Health and Care of the Newborn (RHCN) lead Dr Melanie Griffin.

Qualifications and Training

Essential
  • Registration with GMC
  • MBBS or equivalent GMC recognised
  • MRCOG part 3
  • Language skills as assessed by the GMC
  • Postgraduate certificate in Medical Education
Desirable
  • Higher degree MSc
Skills and Abilities

Essential
  • Able to cope independently with common obstetric and gynaecological emergencies
  • Ability to work in stressful situations and to cope with stress
  • Ability to work harmoniously and efficiently in a team, to undertake and to delegate responsibility
  • Teaching clinical skills in an undergraduate setting
  • Commitment to continuing professional development
Knowledge and Experience

Essential
  • 6 years post-registration of which at least 2 years (ST3+ level) within the UK
  • Completion of ST5
  • Competencies by appointment
  • Workplace-based assessments and OSATS showing competency for procedures at ST3-5 level or above (See RCOG training matrix)
  • Information technology skills
  • Understanding of the principles of Clinical Governance, adherence to/promotion of CNST standards
  • Experience of small and large group teaching
  • Understand principles of audit and completed audit projects
  • National training number - desirable
