Senior Mechanical Safety Specialist
AWE Plc is now recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Safety Specialist to join our Mechanical Safety Team, within our Engineering Safety Organisation. Our team provides complex professional engineering judgement for the effective implementation of technical engineering safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Setting, managing, and assessing standards of competence for Mechanical Engineering Safety Appointed people such as Authorised Persons and Nominated Persons.
- Reviewing suitability of Mechanical safe systems of work for maintenance delivery by AWE and contract personnel for compliance with relevant regulations.
- Reviewing legislative records pertaining to engineering safety.
- Providing advice on the safe and effective implementation of engineering safety and making judgement on the safe and effective implementation of engineering safety within area of authority.
- Having oversight of supply chain's specialist contractors application of engineering safety when delivering tasks.
- Providing technical support in resolving complex and multifaceted issues across the business.
- Supporting the development and efficient operation of the Engineering Safety Organisation.
Requirements:
- Strong mechanical engineering background with an engineering/mechanical-related qualification (Level 4/HNC/HND) or equivalent suitable experience.
- Good understanding of PUWER, LOLER, PSSR, and associated inspection and maintenance requirements.
- Conversant in relevant British Standards and Industry Standards.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of maintaining mechanical building services, HVAC systems, industrial gas systems.
- Preferably held or holds an Authorising Engineer / Authorised Person appointment (AUENG/MS1/AP11/APMPS or equivalent).
- The ability to deliver engineering across an equivalent manufacturing and/or research environment comprising a range of infrastructure facilities and associated manufacturing and/or research plant and equipment.
- Experience of working on large civil construction projects - desirable.
- Experience of identifying, managing and reporting on engineering safety risks to senior management.
- Previous experience of leading the delivery of engineering services across the life of an asset.

Security Clearance:
- You will need to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE.
- The nature of our work does mean you need to be a British Citizen who has been resident in the UK for the past 5 years in order to apply for SC clearance and 10 years for DV.

- Our interviews typically take place over Teams and for most roles are a 1 stage process.
