Surplus Lines Compliance Manager

The Baldwin Group, a leading provider of business insurance and employee benefits, is seeking a highly skilled Surplus Lines Compliance Manager to join its Insurance Operations Compliance Team (IOCT). As a key member of this team, you will play a critical role in ensuring that all Baldwin Group excess lines placements comply with industry specifications, standards, regulations, and laws.
Key Responsibilities:- Process surplus lines tax transactions for all states within deadlines set by state entities, including affidavit processing, policy forwarding, and transaction logging.
- Filing of all surplus lines tax reports on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual basis, involving report running, data verification, and submission to meet filing deadlines.
- Assist business colleagues and product managers in reviewing, preparing, and submitting accurate and timely audit responses and filings to state insurance departments.
- Reconcile and correct discrepancies between tax reports and tax documentation, working with BRP Accounting teams and production teams to resolve invoicing errors.
- Train business colleagues on Surplus Lines procedures and processes, updating internal systems and reporting databases with tax filing support status on each transaction.
- Work under the direction of the Chief Compliance Officer to design, implement, and enforce compliance strategies, policies, and programs to prevent violations of statutes, regulations, and company policies.
- Assist in responding to filing objections and communicate with the DOI, participating in meetings to negotiate and secure approvals of filings within established timeframes.
- Ensure compliance with new and existing laws and regulations by monitoring and researching regulations, statutes, and bulletins to determine product applicability and impact.
- Oversee the preparation of materials and information required in response to internal and external regulatory audits, data calls, examinations, and surveys, assisting in drafting responsive communications to requesting parties or regulatory authorities.
- Partner with BRP Operations and key stakeholders to create workflow improvements, driving efficiencies that improve the IOCT strategy and business objectives.
- Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1-year professional work experience preferred.
- Knowledge of the insurance industry, admitted vs. non-admitted markets, is preferred but not required.
- Microsoft Office proficiency with an emphasis in Excel.
- Strong math and analytical skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks independently in a fast-paced environment.
