Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Preston, UK. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the mechanical engineering discipline on various projects.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the project's single point of authority and accountability for the mechanical engineering discipline.
  • Lead a multi-disciplined engineering team and work closely with clients' responsible engineering teams.
  • Develop key design deliverables, including Design Proposal Drawings, Mechanical Flow Diagrams, and Detailed Design Drawings.
  • Ensure design deliverables meet high standards and are compliant with relevant standards, regulations, and customer-specific standards.
  • Manage the deployment of suitably qualified and experienced personnel from design consultants and sub-contractors.
  • Produce documentation that is technically accurate, grammatically correct, correctly formatted, and professionally presented.
  • Prepare and review quality plans for multi or single-discipline work packages.
  • Ensure work delivered is within the defined scope and completed to time and budget.
  • Manage resolutions to technical issues and implement necessary change control.
  • Ensure designs comply with CDM regulations and have designer responsibility under CDM.
  • Present Mechanical engineering designs to clients and key stakeholders.
  • Present technical solutions at design reviews and HAZOPs.
  • Produce and check safety-related documents, such as Hazard Management Strategy and Engineering Substantiation/Justifications Report.
  • Develop estimates, define deliverables, clarify scope/exclusions, and develop programme logic at bid/tender stages.
  • Mentor a team of engineers/designers to improve their skill sets and enhance the company's capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with key counterparts in client or partner organisations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Chartered Member of the IMechE preferred.
  • Minimum 8+ years' experience in the nuclear industry or highly regulated industry, with at least 3 years at Senior Engineer level.
  • Detailed knowledge of standards, regulations, codes, and directives, and how they should be applied.
  • Proven knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and techniques applicable to mechanical design.
  • Strong knowledge in the production of Technical Files for new products/plant and equipment.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the UK.
