We're seeking a skilled Freight Train Operations Specialist to join our team in the Midlands area. As a key member of our ground staff, you'll play a vital role in preparing freight trains for service, facilitating movements to/from the operational railway, and controlling freight train movements in a defined area of responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare freight trains and associated wagons for service in accordance with industry standards.
- Ensure freight trains and associated wagons are correctly disposed of when not in service or left unattended.
- Assist train drivers with brake continuity testing.
- Complete train documentation, including train preparation certificates and train readiness certifications.
- Carry out shunting and train preparation duties, including coupling/uncoupling wagons and locomotives.
- Perform load examination duties to railway industry standards.
- Operate ground frames and hand points as required to facilitate train movements.
- Undertake technical examination of rolling stock.
- Assist maintenance/servicing staff with maintenance/servicing activities, as required.
- Work various shift patterns, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
- Be prepared to lodge away from home, when required.
- Maintain the highest level of professionalism when dealing with colleagues, clients, and the public.
- Be proactive and vigilant towards health and safety.
