Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Neonatal Nurse to join our team as the Neonatal Education Quality and Improvement Lead. This exciting opportunity has become available on the Dyson Neonatal Unit at Royal United Hospital, Bath.

The successful candidate will be a dynamic and compassionate neonatal nurse with a passion for education and quality improvement. They will lead on the educational provision and quality improvement needs of the nursing workforce within the Dyson Neonatal Unit, identifying priority areas of education and improvement while ensuring quality improvement methodologies and a range of teaching pedagogies are utilised.

The Dyson Neonatal Unit is a 21-bedded Local Neonatal Unit with 4 Intensive Care cots, 3 High Dependency Cots, and 14 Special Care Cots. We strive to provide excellent care for our babies and families, and the training and education of staff is fundamental to the safe running and development of the unit.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the assessment of safe, quality care and health education needs across the neonatal service, managing a team of clinical educators, and developing, implementing, and evaluating neonatal nursing pathways in collaboration with the wider team.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Lead in the assessment of safe, quality care and health education needs across the neonatal service
  • Manage a team of clinical educators to assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate programmes of education for neonatal staff
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate neonatal nursing pathways in collaboration with the wider team
  • Lead in the delivery of quality improvement initiatives to support local quality and safety indicators
  • Coach individuals and teams to embed continuous improvement in their daily work and within Specialist Interest Groups
  • Support further development and implementation of our Maternity and Neonatal Transformation Strategy
  • Collaboratively develop action plans to address areas requiring improvement aligned to key performance indicators
  • Establish mechanisms for evaluating the effectiveness of educational programs and training initiatives, utilizing feedback and outcome data to drive continuous improvement
  • Conduct regular audits and produce reports to provide assurance of adherence to national standards
  • Coordinate and deliver educational sessions, workshops, and simulation-based training to enhance the knowledge and skills of neonatal healthcare professionals

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

  • Registered Nurse / Registered Midwife Registered with the NMC
  • BSc in Nursing
  • MSc or able to demonstrate recent study at this level or willingness to complete Leadership/management related qualification or training
  • Qualification in Teaching and Assessing in Practice. Facilitating Learning & Assessment in Practice, or equivalent (at level 3)

Desirable

  • Post Graduate Certificate of Education
  • Formal quality improvement qualification (Lean green belt certification, IHI Improvement Coach)
  • Formal coaching qualification (ILM)
  • NLS and/or BLS Instructor

Specific Skills

  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft products including MS Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to produce assessable, clear, and concise written reports and summarise complex concepts with clarity
  • Demonstrates ability to apply research-based practice and advocate it to improve the quality & efficiency of ward / unit service

Knowledge & Experience

  • Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of neonatal nursing theory and best practice, and the application of this in practice
  • Previous experience in managing Health, Sickness & Performance, Recruitment & Selection, Appraisal etc
  • Experience of developing training materials, delivering training, and facilitating workshops and events
  • Nursing experience Significant relevant clinical and management experience
  • Demonstrable experience of effective management and supervision of staff and taking charge of ward / unit

  • Evidence of involvement in service development/improvement
