About the Role

Oxford University Press is seeking a Group Tax Director to lead its tax affairs in alignment with its charitable business objectives.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of global business models and a strong background in tax policy and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize tax liabilities and ensure compliance with local regulations.
  • Prepare biannual reports for the Group Audit Committee and provide technical advice to the business on tax matters.
  • Lead the preservation of tax exemptions and monitor internal and external developments to ensure compliance with local regulations.
  • Provide practical advice to the business on how to structure new business initiatives, including sales arrangements and corporate structures.
  • Identify tax risks worldwide and propose strategies for their evaluation and mitigation.
  • Ensure all group businesses comply with local tax requirements.
  • Prepare UK corporation and non-resident tax returns and deal with resulting queries from HMRC.
  • Drive a culture of excellence within the tax team and act as principal liaison with Oxford University's tax department and UK/Group tax advisers and auditors.

About You

A confident communicator with a good understanding of global business models, you'll have a strong background in tax policy and compliance.

Requirements

  • UK tax qualification and qualified accountant.
  • In-depth experience of UK and international taxation.
  • In-depth knowledge of the taxation of UK charities.
  • Ability to communicate strong financial concepts to non-financial people.
  • Experience of dealing with challenging situations while maintaining strong working relationships.
  • Strong business understanding and commercial awareness.
