Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Housing Standards Officer to join our team. As a Housing Standards Officer, you will assist the Housing Standards Team Lead in delivering a housing standards service, including carrying out property surveys and inspections using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System.

This is a full-time role for 37 hours a week on a temporary 6-month contract at £20.00 per hour.

• Conduct thorough property surveys using the Housing Health & Safety Rating System (HHSRS) as required.
• Implement the Council's approved policies and duties in relation to all aspects of housing standards.
• Provide a proactive and reactive service to private tenants using existing powers under the Housing Act 2004.
• Support the Landlord Accreditation Scheme.
• Deliver the Empty Property Strategy, identifying and visiting empty properties, liaison with other agencies, communication with owners, and finding solutions.
• Offer guidance and advice to owners, landlords, and tenants interpreting HHSRS surveys, schedules of work, and legislative requirements.
• Investigate complaints and undertake service requests related to housing standards matters.
• Liaise with the Housing Technical Officer in preparing schedules of work based on HHSRS survey reports.
• Prepare statutory notices on infringements of Housing legislation and prepare files for prosecution.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and problem-solving skills. This role requires a clean driving license and vehicle.

Estimated salary: £38,000 - £42,000 per annum.
