Lead Computational Chemist

BenevolentAI seeks a visionary leader to spearhead our Cheminformatics and Computational Chemistry team.
As the Director of this dynamic group, you'll guide a talented multidisciplinary team of experts in applying cutting-edge cheminformatics and computational chemistry techniques to accelerate small molecule drug discovery.
Your Impact:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive computer-aided drug design strategy, collaborating closely with Lead Medicinal Chemists to devise innovative chemistry solutions for specific projects.
- Project Execution: Oversee the team's contributions across multiple drug discovery programs, from early hit identification through lead optimization. Work directly with Project Leads to ensure seamless integration and successful delivery.
- Technical Expertise: Provide expert computational and modeling support to drug discovery projects, leveraging a wide range of computer-aided drug design techniques to identify and develop promising small molecules.
- Team Development & Innovation: Foster a culture of excellence within the team by mentoring junior members, resolving conflicts effectively, and championing continuous learning and innovation in cheminformatics and computational chemistry.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a key liaison between scientific and engineering teams across BenevolentAI, ensuring effective communication and knowledge sharing regarding chemical data and related technologies.
Your Qualifications:
- PhD or equivalent in Chemoinformatics, Computational Chemistry, Molecular Modeling, or a closely related field.
- 10+ years of experience applying cheminformatics and/or computational chemistry techniques to small molecule drug discovery within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or academic research sectors.
- Extensive practical experience with computer-aided drug design methodologies, including compound library design, similarity searching, docking, virtual screening, reaction enumeration, molecular dynamics simulations, pharmacophore modeling, and more.
- Proven ability to lead and manage diverse teams of scientific and technical experts, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Strong understanding of machine learning and QSAR modeling techniques applied to chemical and biological data, with expertise in various chemical feature sets and best practices.
- Experience processing chemical and biological data from diverse sources, including public databases and proprietary datasets.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
