About the Role

We are seeking a skilled sports writer and editor to join our Tifo team at The Athletic. As a key member of our video content creation team, you will be responsible for writing engaging scripts for our Tifo videos, including both longer scripts for horizontal YouTube videos and shorter scripts for our social, vertical offering on TikTok, YouTube shorts and Instagram. You will also commission scripts from freelance writers, edit scripts written by others, and liaise with our newsrooms to ensure editorial alignment. You will work under the direction of our Deputy Head of Video to perform your duties, and alongside other leaders in the video team as part of the video review process, to ensure all videos are accurate and meet editorial standards prior to publication.

This position is based in London, and offers a mixture of office and remote work.

Responsibilities
  • Produce high-quality scripts for Tifo Illustrated, including commissioning, editing, and writing, to meet the team's weekly output.
  • Collaborate with designers to ensure our videos retain integrity and comprehension.
  • Work with our Video Growth Team to incorporate analytics and data into our editorial process, maintaining an understanding of our audience.
  • Ensure Tifo videos meet the high editorial standards of The Athletic by working with our newsroom and editors.
  • Review all Tifo videos prior to publication to ensure accuracy and standards.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment, assisting colleagues with their projects and being available as an asset to the team.
Requirements
  • 6+ years of experience in video or print journalism (relevant, equivalent professional experience considered).
  • Advanced understanding of social video platforms and the content that drives audiences.
  • Commissioning experience and ability to work with freelancers.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities.
