About the role

The Train Planning Specialist will play a key role in the strategic and tactical planning of train services in our Control Centre. This involves updating and enhancing seasonal contingency plans, creating plans for planned and unplanned events, and briefing the Control Team on the timetable.

Main responsibilities:

  • Validation and response to STP requests
  • Strategic contingency planning and plans for possession overruns
  • STP (Day A for Day C) planning
  • Possession overrun plans on the day
  • STP weather mitigation plans
  • Plan for short notice sickness affecting services and Covid-19 alterations
  • VSTP planning process
  • Creation of on the day contingency plans for disruption and supporting the Control Team during times of disruption

Requirements:

  • Team worker with some experience in Train Planning or Control - training will be provided
  • Accurate worker with great attention to detail
  • Good communication skills at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to interpret and re-write train plans
  • Must be able to work under pressure to achieve tight deadlines and switch from strategic planner to tactical work
  • Prepared to work shifts

About the location

The Basingstoke Campus, also known as the ROC, is a state-of-the-art Operating Centre and training facility located near Basingstoke station. It is a shared facility with Network Rail and is the hub for all operations across the Wessex region.

Working pattern

Working an average of 37 hours per week over 5 days, Monday to Friday, with shifts from 07:00 to 14:24 and 14:00 to 21:24.
