Heavy Goods Vehicle Operator

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) driver to join our team at S. Norton & Co Ltd, a leading metal recycling company. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving HGVs to collect, deliver, and tip bulk materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive HGVs on a daily basis to collect, deliver, and tip bulk materials.
- Comply with all driver legal requirements and regulations.
- Operate wagon and trailer combinations, including draw bar.
- Conduct daily vehicle checks and complete vehicle check lists.
- Maintain vehicles to a high standard and perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks.
- Ensure vehicles are clean and well-maintained.
- Comply with all vehicle operating systems and make written and/or verbal reports to line managers as required.
- Carry out any additional duties that may be reasonably requested from time to time.
- Comply with Company policies and procedures as defined in the Employee Manual and the post holder's terms & particulars of employment.
Essential Skills:
- A full clean HGV 1/2 driving license.
- A good working knowledge of the Highway Code.
- Excellent working knowledge of Tachograph and working time directive rules & regulations.
- Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence).
- Proven track record of working in a comparable role.
- Capable of conducting basic maintenance, including greasing, oiling, and fuelling.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills.
- NVQ Level 3 or above in a relevant subject or comparable work experience.
- Clean DBS check (transporter drivers only).
Desirable Skills:
- NVQ / ONC or equivalent qualifications in a relevant subject area.
- GCSE Grade C or above in English & Maths.
- Full geographical knowledge of the area the depot and/or Company serve.
- Relative experience in metal recycling and other associated processes.
- Proven ability of driving bulk tippers, operating hoot lift on roll-on-roll-off vehicles.
Working Hours: 43.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 07:45 - 17:00
