Job Description

Job Summary:

Hertsmere Borough Council is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Environmental Health Specialist to join our Commercial team. As an Environmental Health Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring the health and safety of our community by enforcing regulations and providing technical advice to businesses and colleagues.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Undertake programmed inspections of food businesses, investigating complaints, and participating in sampling programmes.
  • Support infectious disease investigations, investigating accidents and health and safety complaints.
  • Provide professional and technical advice to businesses and colleagues, responding to a range of enquiries.
  • Gain experience of other aspects of Environmental Health within the wider department to further professional competencies.
  • Assume responsibility for enforcement-led casework, managing approved establishments, and contributing to our successful Primary Authority Partnership.

Requirements:

  • Be well-organised, efficient, and dependable, with the ability to work within a fast-moving and challenging environment.
  • Be able to adjust to demands and define priorities, work rapidly and accurately, and have the ability to communicate effectively with other professionals, elected members, senior managers, and the general public.
  • Have a flexible approach to working hours, including evening and weekend work, and be willing to participate in the out-of-hours service.
  • Hold a full driving licence and have access to a car for work purposes.
