Bury Workshop

The North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust is seeking a skilled Motor Vehicle Technician to join its Fleet Maintenance Department. This is a unique opportunity to work as part of a dedicated team, providing vital support services to the ambulance fleet.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a range of vehicles, ensuring they are in optimal working condition. This will involve diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical and electrical issues, as well as performing routine maintenance tasks.

Main Duties of the Job

The Motor Vehicle Technician will work closely with the management team to ensure the smooth operation of the workshop. This will involve collaborating with colleagues to maximize vehicle throughput, reducing delays and supply chain frustrations.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of vehicles, each day presenting a new challenge. With over 1150 vehicles in the fleet, there is always something new to learn and achieve.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West, providing non-emergency medical help fast and 24/7. This service is available to anyone who needs medical help or advice but is not in a life-threatening situation.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Education

Essential Criteria

  • City and Guilds certificate in motor vehicle technology or NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualifications and experience
  • Good standard of education. Minimum 3 GCSE or equivalent.
  • Full Driving Licence
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development.

Desirable Criteria

  • Driving Licence C1 + D1 (Work towards)
  • MOT Tester

  • Knowledge of software systems related to diagnostic tools and equipment
  • Ability to work on own initiative with minimum supervision

Knowledge and Experience

Essential Criteria

  • The post holder must have specialist knowledge of motor vehicle electrical systems & mechanical components
  • Comprehensive knowledge of a range of computer-based vehicle diagnostic systems and the ability to analyse and interpret the information presented by the systems to determine the most appropriate repair option
  • Have the ability to diagnose all other vehicle faults without access to diagnostic equipment

  • Experience of working with Vehicle Fleet Management Systems
