About Ignite Hubs

Ignite Hubs is an education charity that aims to ignite the potential of young minds by providing them with the skills, connections, and experiences to access career-related learning opportunities and prepare them for the future workforce.

We currently teach coding and STEM, and our mission is to provide the best learning environment for children and young people from all backgrounds and abilities. We place a special emphasis on engaging underrepresented groups, including girls, children with special educational needs, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Role & Responsibilities

We are seeking a friendly and enthusiastic 3D Technology Instructor for our new Digital Makerspace at Una Marson Library, London SE17. The class is held on a Saturday from 11am to 12pm during term time only.

This role involves introducing and teaching children and young people to learn and develop their 3D printing skills. We are using the MakerBot Sketch 3D printer. It will be highly desirable if you have skills in other areas of technology, such as robotics, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Micro:bit, animation, VR/AR, video production, sound design, game development, and design.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to curriculum development, support additional classes, and create resources and content for our online learning platform. We deliver remote classes from Tuesday to Thursday from 6pm to 7pm and onsite classes from Monday to Thursday from 6:15pm to 7:15pm at other libraries throughout Southwark.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the smooth operation of the Digital Makerspace class by effectively engaging students, volunteer instructors, and parents.
  • Demonstrate and explain the use of 3D printing.
  • Contribute to the development of the curriculum, including the sourcing of materials and equipment.
  • Prepare the classroom and equipment before the class and manage the pack-up and debriefing session afterwards.
  • Possibility to work additional hours by supporting other classes and developing content for our Online Learning Platform.
Requirements:
  • Enhanced DBS check
  • Able to travel to the Una Marson Library, London SE17. You will be reimbursed for reasonable travelling costs, and travelling time of up to an hour each way will be covered.

  • Experience working with children and/or young people in a formal or informal community setting (desirable).
  • Self-motivated, organised and proactive.
