About the Role

The Central Underwriting teams at Hiscox are responsible for the technical underwriting of new business and renewals across our broker business. As an Underwriting Specialist, you will focus on underwriting existing business for our commercial policies, working towards set targets each month including profitability, conversion, and productivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite commercial products in line with our high standards
  • Develop sales skills and appreciation of sales and underwriting strategy in collaboration with the wider teams and regions
  • Effectively negotiate with internal and external parties, including brokers
  • Challenging non-standard underwriting decisions, leveraging product specialists and underwriting managers
  • Show courage and innovation by spotting process improvements and enhancing the customer experience

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a commercial lines underwriter, with knowledge of Professional Indemnity, Management Liability, and Cyber
  • Logical and analytical thinker, with excellent communication skills
  • Natural flair for building relationships and developing close rapport with brokers
  • Ambitious and driven, with a self-motivated approach to achieving results
  • Degree qualified, with working towards Diploma CII or exempt through relevant experience
