About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Avionics Engineer to join our growing team. The successful candidate will focus on engineering and testing of avionic systems and autopilot, primarily working on the next-generation Unmanned Aerial System equipped with the latest technologies, including an AI-based detect and avoid system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, test, and verify avionics for Unmanned Systems
  • Configure and optimize autopilot settings through additional coding
  • Develop electrical and signal interface definitions for avionics systems, including communications and electrical interfaces
  • Establish design, production, maintenance, and operational best practices for validation, traceability, and quality control
  • Maintain a minimum of 5 years' experience in an Engineering role with active involvement in design and verification processes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including quality, production, and supply chain
  • Demonstrate a general understanding of 2D/3D CAD modeling, CFD, UAV Construction, UAS Operations and the Law, UAS Technology and Applications, 3D printing, VLOS UAV Piloting
  • Acquire hands-on knowledge of flight system and subsystem installation & integration, Ardupilot & PX4 FC setup, GCS operations, Autonomous flight, mission planner and QGC, UAS Sensor Technology and integration Flight Trials, Post-flight analysis
  • Possess a pilot's license or remote pilot's license (preferable)
  • Prioritize production/design/flight certification experience in the aerospace industry (preferable)

The role offers a 6-month contract with the option to convert to permanent after this period. The salary is estimated at £55,000-£65,000 per annum, depending on location and experience.
