About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Planning Officer to join our Development Management team. This role will involve assessing planning applications, preparing reports, and providing recommendations to the Planning Committee. You will also be responsible for undertaking site inspections, advising applicants on application content, and liaising with the Planning Policy Team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessing planning applications against council policies and preparing reports and recommendations.
- Presentation of planning application reports and recommendations at Planning Committee meetings.
- Undertaking site inspections and meetings regarding planning applications and pre-applications, appeals, and enforcement enquiries where required.
- Advising applicants on application content prior to and after submission.
- Providing advice to Parish Councils, elected Members, and members of the public on Development Management matters.
- Preparing evidence for planning and enforcement appeals and presenting at appeals at the level appropriate to experience.
- Liaising with the Planning Policy Team on policy matters and the preparation of development briefings.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you should have a Degree in Town and Country Planning working towards membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute. Alternatively, you may be considering a career in planning with a degree in a related subject and an interest in the built environment. Previous experience within a Planning team would be beneficial but not essential. You should possess strong communication, report writing, and customer service skills, as well as the motivation to deliver high performance and manage your caseload under tight deadlines.
