Job Title: Optometrist Consultant

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Optometrist Consultant to lead the Ophthalmology Service as the Head of Optometry. This role will replace the retiring Head of Department and will be responsible for the operational and strategic leadership of the service and its team of approximately 40 staff members.

The successful candidate will have a strong clinical background in Hospital Optometry, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in core and specialized areas. They will be responsible for ensuring the achievement of activity, financial, and staff performance targets, as well as maintaining quality standards. Budget and staff management, along with business planning, are integral to this role.

The Head of Optometry will also maintain their own clinical commitment, currently involving five sessions per week, tailored to the individual's clinical expertise. The department is well-established and efficiently organized within the broader Ophthalmology service, providing clinical services to the greater Glasgow and Clyde population, as well as some of NHS Highland through a service level agreement.

The ideal candidate will have a strong leadership style, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with the Ophthalmology Clinical Service Manager, Clinical Directors of Ophthalmology, and other team leads. They will also have a strong understanding of clinical governance, financial management, and leadership skills.
