Cloud Solution Architect Leader

The role of Cloud Solution Architect will be a pivotal position within the Architecture Manager's team at UK Power Networks. This location-agnostic job is based in one of the company's offices in London, Crawley, or Ipswich and offers a permanent employment opportunity.
Salary details reveal that this position attracts a salary determined by experience, accompanied by a bonus of 7.5%.
This job also provides an attractive blended working arrangement after a probationary period of six months, consisting of three days in the office and two remote days.

UK Power Networks is undergoing significant transformation in its Hybrid Cloud strategy, with Microsoft Azure playing a crucial role in the company's Technology Strategy. As a key member of the team, you will have the unique opportunity to shape this evolution and lead the delivery of essential capabilities while gaining valuable experience in implementing cloud solutions on a large scale in a highly regulated environment.
As a Cloud Solution Architect, your primary responsibilities will include defining and communicating current and target-state architectures across the enterprise and wider architecture teams. You will ensure that solutions align with the overall strategy and architecture, supporting business objectives.
You will play a pivotal role in enabling application modernisation and rationalisation projects, providing subject matter expertise or leading on delivering cloud architecture, leveraging existing patterns and forming new ones as needed.
In addition, you will contribute to driving the adoption of an Enterprise Architecture Repository and support updates to architecture templates and policies.
DimensionsYour direct reports will be none, but you will influence £10m worth of projects. Your focus will be on leading on definition of Cloud and Infrastructure architectures and roadmaps for transitioning from legacy technologies to Azure and M365.
You will translate these roadmaps into packages of work that facilitate frequent incremental delivery of value to be included in change programmes.
Another key aspect of your role will be performing architecture assessments of existing infrastructure to identify any gaps that may exist and provide recommendations on remediation.
Principal Accountabilities- Leading on definition of Cloud and Infrastructure architectures and roadmaps for transitioning from legacy technologies to Azure and M365.
- Translating roadmaps into packages of work that allow frequent incremental delivery of value to be included in change programmes.
- Performing architecture assessments of existing infrastructure to identify any gaps that may exist and provide recommendations on remediation.
- Ensuring solutions compliant with the Architecture Roadmap are delivered across Microsoft Azure and other SaaS Cloud offerings.
- Working closely with business stakeholders, programme and project managers, as well as product owners to define technical solution designs.
- Tracking, analysing, and monitoring technology performance metrics of managed products.
- Leading complex and technically challenging architectural transformations, coordinating technical SMEs across multiple vendors.
- Seeking out and utilising continuous feedback, fostering adaptive design and engineering practices to drive collaboration of programmes and teams around a common technical vision.
- Supporting Architecture review governance and Enterprise Architecture Repository management.
- Ensuring Architecture principles & standards are kept up to date with best practice and technology changes.
This role requires someone with a passion for Cloud Solution Architecture and defining roadmaps for complex enterprises. You will be responsible for defining adoption paths for Cloud and owning the solution design authority to ensure it best supports the enterprise and UKPN's long-term strategy.
With valuable exposure, you will build and leverage relationships with colleagues across UK Power Networks and suppliers to ensure commercially focused decisions that create long-term value.
Skills, Qualifications, and ExperienceTo succeed in this role, you will need:
- A broad knowledge of Microsoft Azure and Data Centre infrastructures.
- The ability to translate complex technical concepts to colleagues, including senior leadership.
- An understanding of Agile methodologies with experience working in an Agile team.
- Excellent collaboration and partner management skills.
- Experience of developing, updating, and communicating architectures, designs, and proposals for action.
- Experience working with business solution vendors, technology vendors, and products within the market.
- An understanding of industry architecture frameworks, such as TOGAF, BPMN, or ArchiMate.
- A Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, in a STEM field.
- Experience as a Solution Architect or similar role in a large IT environment.
