About the Role
The University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly experienced and skilled professional to lead the Trauma and Orthopaedics Directorate as a General Manager. This is a key leadership position that will play a critical role in shaping the future of our services and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead the Directorate in ensuring the provision of high-quality patient services that are clinically safe, delivered cost-effectively, and meet the Trust's values, priorities, and performance targets.
- Develop and implement the Directorate's operational plan as part of the Care Group's annual business planning process.
- Lead the Directorate's Triumvirate teams for the strategic and operational delivery of agreed quality, performance, workforce, and financial plans, including a delegated Cost Improvement Programme.
- Contribute to ensuring that the corporate aims and vision of the Trust are achieved, setting the vision and determining the objectives of clinical services, monitoring performance against these, and taking corrective action where appropriate.
- Maintain a significant breadth of knowledge of all aspects of the portfolio to influence and determine strategic direction, achieve delivery of key performance targets, and support the modernization of efficient and cost-effective services.
About the Team
The Trauma and Orthopaedics Directorate provides Trauma and elective Orthopaedic services at two of our hospital sites, managing a budget of £29m with 400 staff. The service has 4 trauma wards focusing on trauma admissions, complex trauma injuries, lower limb fragility fractures, and a medically stable trauma ward that focuses on rehabilitation. The Royal Bournemouth Hospital site focuses on elective orthopaedics and is supported by 2 inpatient wards, pre-assessment, outpatients, and theatre provision, including 3 dedicated operating theatres.
Requirements
- Evidence of post-qualification study/professional development to master's level (post-grad certificate/MBA/MSc) or equivalent senior management experience.
- Broad operational management experience within an Acute NHS Trust environment.
- Experience of planning and developing strategy within a complex organization context.
- Ability to collaborate contractively with internal and external partners to create the conditions for successful partnership working.
- Expert knowledge of NHS reporting regimes, including compliance with performance targets and effective pathway management.
- Demonstrable understanding of the NHS operating context, including healthcare funding and the financial framework, and of Government Policy.
