Welfare Advice Coordinator

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Welfare Advice Coordinator to join our team at West Lothian Council. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the delivery of our Welfare Advice Service, working closely with internal and external partners to provide information, advocacy, and welfare rights advice to vulnerable individuals and communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the provision of an information, advocacy, and welfare rights advice service to ensure that vulnerable households have access to advice and support to increase and maximise their income.
- Work in partnership with key stakeholders to increase access to advice provision across West Lothian through a co-location approach and outreach.
- Provide advocacy and representation at HM Courts and Tribunal Service to ensure that the rights of vulnerable individuals are protected.
- Lead responsibility for income maximisation training and development to support vulnerable customers in accessing affordable food and fuel.
- Support the delivery of key aspects of the Community Planning Partnerships Tackling Poverty Strategy to ensure that the most vulnerable households have access to advice and support.
Requirements
- Education to degree level in a relevant professional discipline, or equivalent level of knowledge, experience, and expertise.
- Detailed knowledge of relevant legislation, council policies, and procedures related to local government benefit schemes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information to various levels of authority.
