Purchasing Manager Job Description

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for the supplier demand planning and delivery of all direct materials and services, ensuring continuity of material supply. This role involves managing supplier on-time delivery, parts quality, and cost requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of Procurement Buyer-Planners, providing development opportunities and leadership in direct, indirect, and service procurement functions.
  • Ensure supplier delivery on time, inventory levels, and quality while supporting cost requirements.
  • Develop and implement supplier capacity planning models, including constraint management, in collaboration with the SIOP team.
  • Initiate and manage cost-out and delivery projects, meeting and exceeding MPV targets in line with PP commitments.
  • Manage ECN and MPS changes affecting direct materials in the supply chain, working closely with Commodity Managers, Engineering, Operations, Supplier Quality, and Supplier Development teams.
  • Execute projects related to commodity strategy, supporting divisional cost, quality, delivery, supplier reduction, and sourcing goals.
  • Collaborate with Supplier Quality and Supplier Delivery teams to improve the current supply base and develop new suppliers, as needed.
  • Maintain ERP supplier parameters, including Supplier Time Fences, MOQ, Min/Max levels, safety time, and safety stock management, in alignment with the Material Planning team.
  • Ensure supplier compliance and communications associated with corporate initiatives, such as Ethics compliance and EHS requirements.
  • Monitor and report on supply base performance measures, including quality, cost, and delivery.
Requirements:
  • Masters or Bachelors degree in SCM, Business, or related field.
Skills:
  • Full knowledge of materials planning systems (MRP/ERP) requirements and order generation process logic.
  • CIPS/APICS CPIM certification or working towards it.
  • Thorough understanding of SCM operational concepts surrounding production planning, scheduling, purchasing, and inventory control.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional process improvement teams.
  • Procurement management experience and manufacturing industry experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Minimum 5 years buying experience.
  • Demonstrated project leadership success.
  • Broad commodity or technical experience preferred.
