About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Data Collector to join our team in collecting prices of various items from retail premises across the UK. As a CPI Data Collector, you will be responsible for visiting designated locations on a monthly basis to collect data, working approximately 12-15 hours over two set days.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work independently and as part of a team, and possess basic electronic device literacy. You will also need to have a valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle.

As a CPI Data Collector, you will work with our handheld devices to record prices in real-time, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. You will be required to visit a variety of locations, including supermarkets, convenience stores, restaurants, and bars, among others.

We offer a competitive hourly rate of £13.44 (outside London) and comprehensive fully-paid training to ensure your success in the role. If you are looking for a part-time opportunity that allows you to earn money while working flexibly, this could be the perfect fit for you.

Job Opportunity

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) produces the Consumer Prices Index (CPI), the most widely used measure of inflation in the UK economy. Our CPI Collectors play a vital role in gathering data from over 200 towns and cities across the UK, which is then compared to track changes over time.

This role is ideal for individuals looking for a customer service, sales, or administration role who have existing commitments or responsibilities. You will attend the same locations each month, collecting data from 15-20 locations, including:

  • Supermarkets & convenience stores
  • Restaurants & Bars
  • Discount retailers
  • Clothing shops
  • Home stores (DIY shops, Carpet shops, Sofa shops)
  • Cinemas
  • Mechanics' garages
  • Tobacconists
Essential Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle
  • No prior experience is necessary, as full training will be provided
  • The ability to complete DBS, identity, Employment, and Right to Work checks
  • Electronic device literacy for using handheld devices to record prices
  • Ability to prioritize data collection over other work commitments
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
