Plumber Position

Job Summary:
The City of Birmingham is seeking a skilled Plumber to perform journeyman-level plumbing work on various heating, cooling, water, and sewage systems, and other related equipment to ensure all systems are functioning properly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect plumbing fixtures and associated equipment, including water, sewer, gas, steam, and irrigation system pipes, fittings, valves, pumps, fixtures, and appliances.
- Perform general support duties in preparation for maintenance and repairs, including cleaning and maintaining plumbing fixtures and associated equipment.
- Repair and replace plumbing fixtures and associated equipment, following local and international plumbing and gas codes and ordinances, as well as Alabama Health Department requirements.
- Install plumbing fixtures, lines, pipes, and associated equipment in municipal facilities, integrating new materials with existing plumbing systems.
- Procure and/or manage inventory, including supplies and equipment, to ensure products and services are available to meet operational needs.
Requirements:
- Possession of a valid Driver's License.
- Journeymen Plumber Certification from the Alabama Plumbers and Gas Fitters Examining Board.
- Journeymen Gas Fitter Certification from the Alabama Plumbers and Gas Fitters Examining Board.
- Experience reading and interpreting mechanical engineer drawings.
- Experience installing and repairing various piping systems, including commercial plumbing piping, gas piping, commercial fuel oil piping, compressed air piping, steam piping, steam condensate piping, and non-potable chilled and hot water piping.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Backflow Testing certification.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in both employer-owned facilities, such as workshops, warehouses, or stations, and in field locations, including external places of business, residences, and construction worksites.
Physical Demands:
The job involves occasional moderate physical exertion, requiring occasional prolonged periods of lifting, carrying, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, balancing, and climbing, with regular lifting of items or objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
