Housing and Benefits Advisor

We are looking for an ambitious and driven individual to join our Benefits Team as a Housing and Benefits Advisor. In this role, you will have the opportunity to learn and develop skills in administering Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, and Discretionary Housing Payment applications through a Level 4 Apprenticeship provided by the Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation.

You will work closely with our small team but also collaborate with other teams, such as Housing, Homelessness, and Council Tax, to provide exceptional support to members of our community who require assistance with rent and council tax costs.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A genuine interest in Local Government and helping residents of Rugby
  • Strong Customer Service skills
  • A good standard of education, including Maths and English GCSE grade C/4 or above
  • Practical experience with ICT systems, including MS Office, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Good written and oral communication skills, enabling effective interaction with diverse individuals
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team, use personal initiative, and take responsibility for individual tasks
  • The capacity to work under pressure in a performance-managed environment
