About the Role

The Commercial Team is a highly effective practice management team that looks after the business processes, enabling lawyers to focus on the law. As a Commercial Lawyer Specialist, you will manage a caseload with an emphasis on income generation, including complex and high-profile matters.

You will understand the commercial and legal issues surrounding the procurement and award of commercial contracts, and the future delivery of services across the council. You will devise and lead strategically on complex or novel matters, covering key legal principles and timescales, key officers, stakeholders, and senior management involvement.

You will support and encourage colleagues to develop their knowledge and skills, and provide support on matters ranging from significant capital projects, major procurement projects, academy transfers, and local government matters.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Qualified solicitor, barrister, or legal executive
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of public sector procurement law
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of commercial contracts
  • Experience of preparing legal documentation in routine and non-complex cases using precedent documentation
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels

Desirable criteria include knowledge and experience of local government and public law, NEC and JCT construction contracts, and experience of working in local government.
