Job Description

We are seeking a Medical Examiner to join our team in West Mercia. As a Medical Examiner, you will be responsible for assessing and addressing the health needs of detained individuals, as well as conducting forensic medical examinations to gather evidence for use in the criminal justice system.

This role requires you to provide a professional, responsive, and caring service to detainees in custody. You will perform clinical assessments, identify and implement appropriate interventions, and collect forensic samples.

Main Responsibilities
  • You will work with custody staff, police officers, and other healthcare providers to ensure that detainees receive the necessary care and support.
  • You will conduct forensic sampling and assessment of alcohol and drug intoxication and withdrawal.
  • You will provide advice and support to custody officers in determining the healthcare needs of detainees and the priorities of care.
  • You will develop positive working relationships with Consultant FMEs, doctors, custody staff, police officers, and other organisations.
  • You will participate in the collection of data for service audits and contribute to continuous service improvement.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have experience in forensic healthcare and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. You will also need to have excellent communication skills and be able to work collaboratively with other professionals.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the criminal justice system and be able to interpret the relevant legislation and policies.

In addition, you will need to have a full UK driving license and be able to pass an enhanced DBS check.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this role is £40,000 per annum (FTE) or £20 per hour for bank staff. In addition to your salary, you will also receive a range of benefits including access to ongoing training and development opportunities, and a comprehensive pension scheme.
