About the Role:

HS2 Ltd is seeking a highly skilled Financial Accountant to contribute to the strategic development of the company. The successful candidate will define and implement effective accounting policies, financial systems, controls, processes, and reports. They will engage with stakeholders, both internal and external, to promote financial awareness, anticipate and address evolving needs, and discharge financial reporting responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will have experience working within a Finance function, particularly in a matrix organisation. They will possess commercial awareness outside of the immediate Finance function and be able to develop effective working relationships with key internal stakeholders. The post-holder is expected to behave at all times in a manner consistent with the HS2 values of Safety, Leadership, Integrity, and Respect.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Organise and manage assigned areas to support the preparation and publication of the Annual Report and Accounts and the quarterly reports for consolidation in the DfT group.
  • Define, implement, and monitor technical accounting policies, operational procedures, and performance measures necessary to maintain the integrity of financial data.
  • Manage and lead on assigned areas of the financial systems and records to ensure they are up-to-date.
  • Contribute to the transformation of HS2 Ltd by streamlining its financial processes and taking the lead to define and implement systems and process improvements.
  • Provide expert technical advice to senior financial management based on excellent knowledge of technical accounting standards.
About You:

Skills:
  • IT skills with recent and up-to-date experience of ERP systems.
  • Ability to produce and present documents and reports to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with key internal stakeholders.
Knowledge:
  • Qualified financial accountant, with a recognised body.
  • Understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs) and technical accounting matters.
Requirements:
  • Experience working within a Finance function.
  • Experience working within a matrix organisation.
  • Commercial awareness outside of the immediate Finance function.
